Inundated in a slight cacophony, the instrumental for Curren$y’s “Dollar Sign Eyes” is weird without a doubt. Mixing natural live instrumentation with a perplexing synthesizer line, Spitta’s Joey Bada$$ coordinated effort is an intriguing tune in. Driven by a high octave bassline reminiscent of OutKast’s “Wheelz Of Steel,” even Ron Burgandy’s Yazz woodwind shows up. Thick and lavish, the creation for this is something like an out of body understanding. And keeping in mind that it may be off putting to a few, that doesn’t prevent the two rappers from holding it down.
We definitely know Curren$y and Joey Bada$$ can spit, and there’s no exemption to this one. Laid back in approach measure, the two specialists kick braggadocio over the thick soundscape. “I got this crap aced,” raps Joey. “I’m in an alternate section, she hit me in the wake of dropping five groups on a coat, crap the old me would have needed to jack it.”
Curren$y’s Back At Burnie’s drops March sixteenth.
